WTF?

Flogging Molly is an awesome band. I can apply their lyrics to so many things, including Harry Potter...
First, The Likes of You Again. My first favorite song by them. Without real reason (only because I'm prejudiced), I think of Severus when I hear this, but when I study the lyrics, they probably fit Sirius more. Next
Wednesday night is mornin' now
As I'm walkin' in the rain
The birds are screaming in my ear
Drivin' me insane
Half the clouds are empty
So the sun burst through the sky
The puddles show reflection
Of a face about to die
...
Carried all his troubles in an unforgivin' bag
Back and forth through painted brick (Um, Kings Cross much?)
...
Woke up in an awful state
Dreamt I was at Peter's Gate
Beggin' for his mercy
And the crimes that were at hand
He told me he was much amused
To see this life I had abused
Best be on your way, but have a swig before you go
So I'm bringing in the New Year
As the bells began to ring
Fat's in the corner, she's just about to sing
Time to get another, before the final shout
You should have heard them roarin'
When they dragged the bugger out
And we'll never see the likes of you again
No we'll never see the likes of you again
No we'll never see the likes of you again
Next, Grace of God Go I. This is an excellent funeral song - the lone singer, entirely acoustic. I've always, always applied it to Sirius's death - until the very last verse, then it concerns Lily - and Severus listening/thinking upon it, both about Sirius and Lily. This is the entire lyrics:
Lookin' down through a tide of no return
Is a field where the crops no longer grow
Parched is the land, strangled an' be damned
There for the grace of God go I
Down beside where the riverbed sleeps
Is a man not knowin' what he should feel
Mocked by the wave that beats the waters edge
There for the grace of God go I
If I ever hurt another like thee again
I would drown myself beneath your name
Lost was the child, we all once did hide
There for the grace of God go I
What's Left of the Flag is another favorite, naturally. It's a more rousing song, very appropriate for the Irish feudal angst. It's also very applicable for the Death Eater-Auror war. I like how it begins slowly, funeral-like as well, then suddenly speeds up with "The rosary beads count the 1, 2, 3, fell apart as they hit the floor..."
His eyes they closed
And his last breath spoke
He had seen all to be seen
A life once full
Now an empty vase
Wilt the blossums on his early grave
Walk away me boys
Walk away me boys
And by morning we'll be free
Wipe that golden tear
From your mother dear
And raise what's left of the flag for me
Then the rosary beads
Count the 1,2,3
Fell apart as they hit the floor
In a garb of black
We must pay respect
To the color we were born to mourn...
In its place grew
An angry festered wound
Full of hatered and remourse
Where I pick and scratch
Till the blood it matched
Silent rage that now fills my lungs
For there are many ways
To kill a man they say...
But sure as night turns day
As the passion play
Oh my god, what have they done
With madman's rage
Well they dug their graves
But the dead rise again you fools
Walk away me boy
Walk away me boys
And by morning we'll be free
Wipe that golden tear
From your mother dear
And raise what's left
Of the flag for me
In that second-to-last stanza, don't you immediately think of the Auror family massacres?
What is probably my current favorite...If I Ever Leave This World Alive.
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive
So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive
She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
...Okay. There's no real relation between it and Harry Potter. I just love it.
