laviviA theory of magic presented by fanfic:
A little girl, born of a wizard/witch and a Muggle, begins to show her own magic as a child. The parents fight over it, the Muggle parent wanting her to be "normal" and brought up so. The child, upset by the fighting, wishes she would disappear.

Or just begins turning different colors.
